What is CDPAP?
A Medicaid program called CDPAP enables people who require long-term home care to manage their own care. Customers, or their representatives, hire and manage their own personal assistants.
Do I qualify? What are the CDPAP eligibility requirements?
Your ability to sign up for CDPAP may depend on a variety of variables. There are, however, a few prerequisites that can provide a good indication of whether or not a candidate meets the qualifying standards.
Determine whether you fit the following three criteria.
- You are a Medicaid recipient or are Medicaid-eligible.
- You need care at home.
- Either you or a representative you have the mental capacity to manage your care.
- You live in New York state
Can a consumer hire a family member to be their personal assistant?
The majority of family members, including kids, are available to work as personal assistants. The spouse is not allowed to be the personal assistant. Parents of children under 21 are also not permitted to serve as their clients’ personal assistants.
Do personal assistants need any special license or certificate?
Personal assistants must be able to work lawfully. To offer care under the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program, they are not need to hold a particular license or qualification.
